What and where is Korah?

Our Humanitarian Trips

At Korah Kids, we cherish each opportunity that we receive to visit Ethiopia and the families that live in Addis Ababa. On these trips, we bring thousands of donations that range from candy to bags filled with clothes and any other necessities.

These visits are especially wonderful for our sponsors to have a chance to meet the amazing children that they support. Even though Ethiopia is on the other side of the world from most of us, we find that our connections with these children remain ever strong. Many of us regard them as our own!

The following is a written experience by one of our fellow volunteers who accompanied us on our most recent trip that took place from Jan. 28 to Feb. 6.

Sue’s Experience

My first trip there was such a life-changing experience for me. We witnessed first-hand the poverty, and desperate needs of thousands of men, women, and children who live, search for food and clothing to wear, and who struggle to survive every day of their lives at the trash dump in Korah.

The smells are horrific, and the sights are as well. I didn’t see one bed, one pillow, one couch or nice chair to sit on, one bathroom, one sink, one bathtub, etc.

What I did see was desperation, but also hope.

Hope is in the eyes of so, so many people, that someone would have compassion, love, and caring hearts on their behalf. How thankful I am to be part of the Korah Kids team where we have been able to help so many. I love seeing their smiles and I love giving and receiving hugs when we deliver mattresses, blankets, tarps for their floors, clothing, shoes, toys, and monetary help (they still have to pay rent at the trash dump, and they have many other needs that money can supply).

We have also started a feeding program, where we feed a small number of children daily, who would otherwise go without. We are hoping to increase these numbers quickly through the support of others.

My husband and I sponsor three children in Ethiopia, and I love them as if they are my own. I have been there three times and am heading there for my fourth in a few months. I get so excited to see and be with them again. Many times, I have thought to myself, “Quit getting your nails or hair or eyelashes or whatever done so you can sponsor one more child.”

When you go there in person, your heartstrings are pulled as far as they can be. The needs are great, the people are kind, loving, and so appreciative.   Nothing brings greater joy than loving, caring, and helping those in need. After all, isn’t that what

truly brings us happiness? It does in my life for sure.
